Like Nyx can only be seen as the nighttime sky, Erebus on the other hand can only be witnessed as the shadows and darkness that lurk about and leak in the nooks and crevices of the world itself. In Greek literature, Erebus is also used of a region of the Greek underworld where the dead pass immediately after dying, and is sometimes used interchangeably with Tartarus.Įrebus has no physical form, as such it is highly difficult to interpret him in an appearance. While he is featured little in Greek mythology, he is known to have fathered several other deities with Nyx depending on the source of the mythology, this union includes Aether, Hemera, the Hesperides, Hypnos, the the Sisters of Fate, Geras, Styx, Charon, and Thanatos. His two children whom are well known through Greek myth include Hemera, the Protogenos of Day, and Aether, Protogenos of Light, an ironic fact that the day and light would be the children of night and darkness.
